Date Match Issue Thu Oct 05, 2017 12:54 pm • by vinyl_vibe
Run into what I believe is a Date Match issue. I have a rule setup to scan the contents of documents, look for a word within those documents as well as the date, then rename and move the document to another folder. Everything is working except the recognition of the date.

I’m working with pdf documents where the dates are formatted as e.g. 25th October 2017 or 1st September 2017. At first I had the Date Match rule set up as: 31 December 1999 but this didn’t work. I then figured it was the trailing “th” or “st” that was causing the issue so updated the rule with the format: 31 … December 1999 but that also did not work.

Where have I gone wrong? Any help appreciated.

Do you have a space before the "anything" token? If so, remove that and see if that works.

No space, no.

here's a screenshot of that portion of the rule:

and here's how the date is formatted within the pdf:

How does the text look in Hazel's preview?

Use Hazel's preview function (check the manual for how). There you can see the contents of the file as Hazel sees it.

I realised yesterday that part of the issue was I was running an older version which did not have the preview function. I've now upgraded to the latest version and tested again but the issue remains. Using the preview function, Hazel tells me the rule matches so still not sure what the problem is.

I see one file matching the rule. Is that the one you are having problems with?

Yes, this is the one that's giving me trouble. Specifically it's not adding the date to the file name.

Turn on debug mode as described here: https://www.noodlesoft.com/kb/hazel-debug-mode/

Post the logs after that.
