Hazel not filing top level folders Tue Apr 07, 2026 8:22 pm • by sbxray
After Hazel moves files based on my rules, I’m left with a lot of empty folders.

I’d like Hazel to detect those empty folders and move them into an Archive folder. I can’t seem to get it to recurse through the folder structure or reliably catch empty folders at the top level after the moves happen.

Is there a native way to handle this kind of recursive empty-folder cleanup in Hazel?

Here's a link to video that shows the issue happening:

The problem is that all folders are matching the first rule and never getting to the last one. The troubleshooting guide should help with visualizing this: https://www.noodlesoft.com/kb/hazel-tro ... ing-guide/

You need to either reorder those rules or fix the first rule to not match empty folders.
