Problem matching comments Sat Sep 07, 2019 9:28 am • by Dave61
I have a whole bunch of client files that I wish to file based on the comments. Comments are in the form:

Client - always present, always a single word (or abbreviation)
Subject - not always present, may be several words or numbers

For example:
- Acme
- Acme Proposal
- Acme Meeting 1

When there is Client only then all is well. The problem is that where Subject is present, Client is being ignored. I have checked that matching is correct (using Preview).

I cannot show you the actual files, so I have replicated the problem with some dummy files.

Can you show the comments on the files? Also, try using the preview function.

You can see the comments in the first and last images. And, as I said, I have used the Preview function. Can post screenshots of that tomorrow.

Additional screenshots as requested. I have tweaked filenames to match comments and the text in first post.

1) Show rule status
Image

2a) Preview result - file with Client only comment = correctly fails the preview for "Client & Subject" rule
Image

2b) Preview result - file with Client only comment = correctly passes the preview for "Client" rule
Image

3) Preview result - file with client & single word subject = correctly passes the preview
Image

4) Preview result - file with client & multi-word subject = correctly passes the preview
Image

5) Actual result of running the rules = only the client only file is correctly sorted

Sorry, missed the comments column in that first screenshot.

In the preview, click on the green badge on each condition. It will show you the values of things matched. Post what it shows as matching for the subject.

Ooh, didn't know you could do that. Handy.

Down to business.

Initial starting point
Image

1) Preview for client only file: fail = correct
Image

2) Preview for client & subject file: pass = correct
Image

3) Preview for client & extended subject file: pass = correct
Image

And for completeness: the result of running the rules

NB I have only posted previews of the "Client & Subject" rule, which is the one giving trouble.

Check the logs. Go to the "Info" section and click "View Log". Search for one of the files and post the relevant excerpt.

EDIT: Actually, nevermind. I can replicate it here now. My current build has a fix for a related issue which addresses this as well Reversing those allows me to see the problem here.
