Sort into subfolder with partial match Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:03 am • by Dave61
I regularly download images of maps from an online game. From the metadata I rename them with GameID and turn number, e.g. 243713-04.png, then move them to an archive with a folder for each game.

At the moment each folder is named after the GameID only, but I would like to be able to add the game title (manually), so for example "243713 Fire & Ice". However, if I put the "anything" token after the GameID in the Sort Into Subfolder command the file is put into a new folder named 243713-04, i.e. the image file name.

I wonder if there are any hidden characters in the folder name (or the game id)?

To see if it's the folder name, re-enter the folder name manually (do not copy and paste anything).

To see if it's the original game id, that might be a bit trickier. Maybe create a test rule to grab it from the filename and create a test file whose name you enter manually (again, no copy/paste) and see if that works.

If you find it's still not working correctly, if the files do not contain any sensitive data, email it in to support along with the rule. Use the "Contact support" button in Hazel's "Info" section.

Some progress.

In the final action, if I put a space after GameID, it works, except for folders that are un-named, i.e. numbers only. The folders are created (without game titles) by the rule, using GameID as the name so maybe there is something hidden at the end. However, manually creating the folder and name doesn't solve the problem.

Will send some example files.
