Is Hazel automatic sorting and renaming of files Simple?

I want Hazel to automatically sort and rename files when saving directly to an external hard drive. I've tried following the manual but it still doesn't work as expected. Does anyone know how to set up file names in 'number + date' format directly on an SSD?

What "number" is this? Do you want to have Hazel do this to any file saved anywhere on the drive? Can you provide a concrete example of what you'd like to see?
