Does anyone know how to do this?

I have numerous msg files that i want to rename. Obviously some of them will share dates and titles so I would like to be able to rename them by the date and time that they were sent.

All help gratefully received

Thanks

What is the file "Kind"? Are these files actively managed by another app? If so, I would refrain from touching them as it will affect that program's operation.

If these are like .eml files, those dates should be in the file contents. You can use "Contents contain match" and match against those. Search the help for "match patterns" on more help on how to do that.

The file kind is a *.msg file from outlook.

I don't want to read them in outlook, I am converting them all to pdfs to file. But I think it would be easier to rename them when they are still saved as msgs. Unfortunately, the date format in the msgs files is not displayed consistently :-(

Thanks for your help.

I don't know how much the date format varies but you can try automatic date detection.
