Hi,

I'm having issues with the rule syncing.
I have two macs and I sync the rules between them.
My username differs a bit on each mac:
Mac1: /Users/FirstName/
Mac2: /Users/FirstLastName/

It seems like when Hazel uses the rules based on the absolute path not the relative ~/ userpath. Therefor I'm getting errors on one of the two mac's because the folders can't be found.

Is it possible to use the relative userpath instead?

Thanks!

It should be using relative paths to your home folder. Can you post specific instances of this happening?

Hi Mr Noodle,

Please see this image, it shows the absolute path:

Is that path correct or not? Note that it will always show the current full path at that time and not any relative path.

Also, the path is listed as Volumes>Macintosh HD instead of just Macintosh HD which seems off to me.

This screenshot was made on the machine with the other username. If you look closely at the screenshot you can see that the folder icon for the move "Ingekomen Factur..." is dimmed because the folder is not found.

Again, though, any notion of why the path is starting with "Volume". Most paths to home folders start with "Macintosh HD".

I've resaved the config on this machine, selected with the browse dialog (don't know how to do it differently). It still shows the full path, not the relative ~/

After sync it will show up like this, now missing the Macintosh HD. No clue why.

On both machines the paths are available/the same if you take it from the relative ~/ path. If you take it from the full path, only the username is different.

Hazel attempts to use a relative path/alias to a home folder but the problem with when it was >Volumes>Macintosh HD, it made it look like it wasn't.

Is it still not working now that the paths are different?

Hi Mr_Noodle,

I've rechecked on two freshly installed macs, and it doesn't work. (both with different user names)

It still uses the entire path for folders in the home folder.
This means that you can only use sync rules if the path is out of the home folder or if the home folder name is identical on both machines.

To solve this I would suggest to change the way the settings are saved:
If folder is part of the home folder then save the relative folder path in settings. Example: ~/Downloads
For all other folders use the full path. Example: /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Folder

This way it will work on all synced machines, even if it has a different username.

Let me know if you want more info or need me to test anything. Happy to help! :D

Hazel should be doing that now. Have you tried re-setting the folder in the action?
