Renaming a file with content Tue Feb 20, 2018 10:59 am • by jkpalmer52
Hi,

I am a very new user of Hazel.

Having trouble getting it to work to my needs.

I received a file via email. In this file, there is a date in the format of - mm/dd/yy

My rule looks for the file “name”.

I wish to extract the date using “contains matching” and take the date elements (mmddyy) and rename the file to newname-mmddyy.

I can’t get this to work.

Help appreciated.

Can you post the rule as you have it now? Note that for images, you'll need to use a third party hosting service. imgur.com is one such service if you don't have one already (like Dropbox).

I think I figured it out.

For my future reference, how can I post the rule. Should I just do a screen capture?

Screen capture works. Alternatively, you can export your rules and email them in (click on the "Contact Support" button in Hazel and attach it there).
