Hazel and MacUpdate Wed Feb 02, 2011 11:10 am • by waxwing
New Hazel user here. I have Hazel monitoring the Trash for deleted apps as suggested in the setup. I've noticed that every time I run MacUpdate, Hazel kicks off asking if I want to delete files associated with the apps that were updated. I don't know if MacUpdate is moving old versions to the trash or moving the downloaded version there after the install.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice? For now I'll continue using MacUpdate. Should I stop having Hazel monitor apps in the trash?

I'm guessing that MacUpdate is taking too long between throwing out the old version and putting the new one in place. You should contact them and have them re-work the update mechanism to minimize that gap. It's a better design in general as it would make the operation more atomic so there are reasons besides this for them to fix it.
