Rules taking a while to trigger Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:36 am • by satoshi
Hi,

I created this for folder 'downloads'

mp3toitunes
If all of the following conditions are met:
extension is mp3
Do the following:
import into itunes to playlist library
send growl notification with pattern (file) added to iTunes.

right after this I have the sample 'go into subfolders' rule which I downloaded from here.

The rule does work and mp3's get successfully added to itunes even if the file happens to reside in a subfolder.... but it takes ~5 minutes to trigger.

Why is that, and is there a way of speeding it up? It doesn't seem to matter which order I have the subfolder and mp3toitunes rule in. Can I force this to happen instantly?

Thanks
satoshi

Wait I got it.

It turned out I needed to add "if newer than last matched date" thing to my mp3 rule, not the subfolder rule, and put the 'go into subfolders' rule first. Now it's almost instantaneous.

It may take longer for Hazel to see files in subfolders. It's a limitation of the event system that Hazel uses currently. Hazel 3.0 will use a newer event system where there should be no delay.
