I know that I can replace or append a comment, but how can I clear it?

Not supported right now since leaving the field empty isn't allowed. Will look into adding it in a future release. You can, though, replace the comment with a single space character.

Thanks for answering.

A blank would fit into the workflow better than a space as some files come into it that way.

Hope it makes it into a future release.

Have now run into a problem where a file with a previous comment, if cleared by Automator, appears to be blank but is not recognised as such by Hazel. The everything token works so guessing there must be a non-visible character somewhere. If I subsequently add a comment by other means, including Hazel, the mysterious character is still there, screwing up matches.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this.

The everything token matches everything including nothing. Does "is blank/is not blank" not work properly?

Just tried to set up a simple example and it worked correctly. Will have another look at the rule giving me trouble.
