Dumb question about download folder rules :)

Hello,

I purchased Hazel because of the enormous amounts of files and articles that I have sprawled across my computer (a friend recommended it.

Recently, I have been working to keep my downloads folder organized, but continue to run into a strange issue: So, under "folders" I have my download folder (where Safari directs all downloads). I have attempted to create various rules to send specific file types to specific folders. For example:

I have a "PDF" folder in my downloads folder where I would like all downloaded PDF files are sent to. My rule for this is as follows:

If any of following conditions are met

Extension is pdf
Extension is PDF

Do the following:

Move file to folder: PDF (the folder inside the downloads folder).

With this rule, pdf files are placed into a weird subfolders within the PDF folder. These subfolders are created individually, one for each file, and they have the day's date that the file was downloaded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Assuming the rule is exactly as you stated, I suspect that there is another program doing that. Unless you added a "Sort into subfolders" action after doing the move, I don't see how Hazel would have generated that.

hmmm..I don't think I have any programs that would interfere with Hazel. Does anyone have a list of potential programs that would?

Well, you can send me copies of your rules and I can double-check those. As for possible programs that may do this, double-check any browser plugins you may be using (I believe Saft may do something like this).

SafariStand can, with its "Tidy by Date for File Downloads" setting.
