[2.3.6] Status: post-update start/stop confusion Sat Apr 03, 2010 2:42 am • by sjk
After upgrading to Hazel 2.3.6 its Status under the System Preferences Info tab claimed to be stopped even though it was running and the Start/Stop button was dysfunctional. Toggling Start/Stop Hazel with the menu bar icon worked, and temporarily fixed the Info tab Status (but not the Start/Stop button behavior).

Not the clearest explanation but the point is that the Info tab's start/stop functionality and status reporting was confused after updating, That worked again normally, and correctly correlated with menu bar actions/status, after the system was restarted.

Thanks for the report. I'm guessing it's just some glitch where things got out of sync during the upgrade. If it happens again, let me know but hopefully it's just a one-time thing.

Perhaps, though it did happen on my iMac G5 and Mac mini (both running 10.5.8) which is one reason I thought it best to report.

Even though you said "It's not right to kill the helper process" doing that on the iMac did get Hazel's Preference Pane and menu bar functionality working properly again (AFAICT). More convenient to try that first instead of logging out and probably restarting.

Well, you shouldn't be killing it just because you don't want it to run. That's what the start/stop button is for and is independent of whether the helper process. But there are definitely cases if the process is hung and you need to reset it.
