Sequential renaming Tue Jan 24, 2017 8:29 pm • by FROZYO
Hi,

I'm sort of new to Hazel, and despite leafing through numerous posts that seem relevant to what it is I'm looking to do, nothing seems to make complete sense to me.

I'm looking for Hazel to sequentially/numerically rename files as they're put into the folder. The image names don't follow any pattern, but I would like Hazel to just recognize a new file has been added to the folder, and just follow the current naming pattern, starting with 00 (so it would be 00, 01, 02, 03...). But for some reason Hazel keeps turning the images into TextEdit files and then starting with 7X (I've seen it do 77, 74, etc.), despite nothing being in the folder.

Could anyone be so kind as to explain how to do this?

Thank you very much!

To address files being turned into text files, that's probably because you deleted the "extension" attribute from your rename pattern. That will end up removing the extension.

As for renumbering, use the # token to do that. That increments with each file automatically.
