Hazel is thrashing my Plex Media Server

Does Hazel modify files / folders when it's running rules on them?

I have Hazel set to to auto-prune some TV show folders on my HTPC server (running Plex Media Server). PMS is set to autoupdate the library when it detects changes to folders. I can see it constantly scanning and rescanning the folders that I have Hazel set to auto-prune, so I'm betting Hazel is modifying something / writing something in the folder when it goes in. If I stop Hazel, the constant scanning/rescanning stops.

If it does write/delete some invisible files, plex can be told to ignore them via name-matching (if I knew what the name was).

Kinda stumped...

What filesystem is being used? If it's a Microsoft one (FAT32, NTFS, etc.) then there's an issue. I'm not sure if it's inherent in the design of those filesystems or Apple's implementation of it, but if a process reads a file, it updates the access time. That in turn generates a file event which will wake up Hazel.

Because of this, you can end up with a loop. It's a bad design on either MS or Apple's part in this and there is no way around it that I know of without having Hazel stop listening to file events.

Email in to support an excerpt of the logs so I can confirm this is what is happening.

The files are on an UNRAID server using the xfs file system.

To be sure: You'd like an excerpt from the Hazel log, or a different one?

Thanks for the help,

The hazel log. It should show all activity which should give you some sense of what may be causing this.

OK -- Sorry for taking so long to reply back. I was out of town for a couple of weeks.

I have emailed (via your web form) support the log file in question.

Thanks!
