Move Images based off url Tue Feb 16, 2010 2:09 pm • by withoutink
Hi, I download a ton of stock photos both free and paid for stuff. I try to sort them based off the site I download them from. Is there an easy way to segregate them at the time of download with Hazel. So, if I download this image: http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo- ... elnuts.php

It would automatically end up in my: Stock Photos / iStockPhotos folder?

Im pretty new at Hazel, as I just bought it on Friday. As of yet I cant get the URL matching to work with these stock photo sites...

You should be able to use the "Source URL/Address" for this. You can filter by domain or even by text that may appear in the URL (like the file path). If you are still having trouble, post back.

That looks like it should work. What kind of behavior are you seeing? You could also try using "is from domain" instead of "contains".

Ok, I attempted to "is from" as well, this time on my work mac. It doesn't work either. When I run the rule, nothing happens at all.

Are you certain that Spotlight is enabled, that the file in question is not under a folder marked as "private" in Spotlight preferences" and that the file in question actually has metadata set? You can use the 'mdls' commandline program to check. Let me know if you need more help on how to do this.

Thanks for the reply...

Spotlight is on
To verify mdls I downloaded this comp from istock: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbvi ... sunset.jpg
Here is a screenshot of the mdls metadata output:

Is that the whole output? It seems to be missing the following:
Code: Select all
kMDItemWhereFroms              = (
    "http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3732362/2/istockphoto_3732362-great-wall-at-sunset.jpg"
)

Might have gotten stripped if the file was copied or re-saved at some point.

Yes, that was everything. Is there a setting in OSX to enable that field? I just saved the image (right click, save image as) via Firefox.

I believe only Safari and Mail set it.

I don't use Firefox but was curious enough to look for possible solutions and could only find:

Add ‘Where from:’ to Firefox downloads (Mac OS X)
