Sort into subfolder and rename contents Wed Jul 27, 2016 8:26 am • by Tekl
Hi,

I've read that I can sort und rename files only in one rule. But in my case I don't have an idea how to achieve it.

  • I always drop folders to my watch folder
  • I want this folder sorted into a subfolder which is no problem with the action "sort into subfolders"
  • But now I want to rename and delete some files inside the moved folder
  • I tried to combine "sort into subfolders" with "Run rules on folder contents" but I only get the folder moved but not the files to be processed.

Btw. is there a way to let Hazel watch the entire contents of a watch folder, so that I can drag files directly into a subfolder?

Thanks, Tekl

In this case, you are dealing with separate entities, a folder and the files within it. As a result, you do need separate rules for those.

It's a bit tricky since you are moving a folder while also wanting to go into it. Also, you'll need to distinguish folders you want to sort into subfolders from the folders you want to sort them into.

As a result, it might be better to have two rules to handle folders. One rule to sort the folders you need to sort. Then another to tell it to go into subfolders.

Then you'll need another rule to process the files in the folder.
