iTunes - import - iTunes settings dependent? Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:16 pm • by qrismac
when Hazel is set to import a file into iTunes ("Import into iTunes") will it copy the file into the iTunes library regardless what I set in the iTunes preferences?

e.g. I set my import settings in iTunes to NOT "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library"
will Hazes "Import into iTunes" overrule this setting?
or will it comply with whatever was set in iTunes' settings?

thx

qm

p.s. sorry it this has been asked before ...

ok. just tried it

iTunes is the boss - Hazel does what's been set in iTunes

is there any way to get Hazel to overrule iTunes?

As you figured it, it uses iTunes setting. As far as I can tell, it's all up to iTunes how it handles it. If you have iTunes set to NOT copy and you want Hazel to copy it into the library, you could try and emulate what iTunes does by a combination of "Sort into subfolders" and "Rename", using the appropriate Spotlight attributes to fill in the proper detail (tip: Artist info is stored as "Authors"). Then you could import it into iTunes.

You can't really do it in the reverse case as you can't have Hazel stop iTunes from copying if it is set to do so.
