Notification When Directory Scan Complete Thu Feb 04, 2016 11:11 pm • by laurie_lewis
Hi all,

I have a folder set up where I drop files/folders and hazel then does it's magic. In this example Hazel if trying to find if images are screenshots from an iPhone/iPad (all various models). I have in the past just let this go for a day and then come back and all the magic is done. This is a favour generally being done for friends and family.

My first rule is to examine all subfolders, then I have set up a rule for each device type - iPhone 4 / iPhone 5 etc. If a screenshot is found it is moved to a specific folder. The rest of the files are left in situ. I have done it this way as there could be a folder structure already in place that needs to be maintained.

What I was wondering if there is a method for Hazel to tell me that it has processed all the files in the folder/sub folders so I can move onto the next part of a manual process. Or is there a way to have hazel recreate the folder structure and move the non screenshots.

Would be interested in if it is possible to set up a rule so that an action is taken once all the files have been matched for the day anyway,

Thanks

Laurie

You'll need some way to indicate things are "done". Note that Hazel doesn't have a concept of this since it just sees a stream of file changes coming in. It can't know when you are done adding files, for instance. If you can figure out a way to indicate that, then you can have Hazel look for that indicator. As for maintaining the folder structure, the move and copy actions do have the ability to do that (click the "i" button to see the options).

As always fantastic support. I was expecting that first answer and will look at your second tip to figure out how to make it work - or at least try.

All the best
