Excel documents as archives Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:35 pm • by invictus26
Hi, I set up a rule to extract all the archives in a folder and then delete them. For some reason, Hazel thought that most, but not all, of my excel documents (both .xls and .xlsx) were archives and unzipped and deleted them. Is there any reason why this happened? Should I be using a different rule? Thanks for your help,

-Matt

I believe recent Office file formats are actually zip files. My guess is that the Spotlight importer for those files are seeing that and considering them archives (in addition to their more obvious type). If you have any rules matching those Office file types, make sure they appear before the unarchive rule. Otherwise, you need to add conditions to your unarchive rule to filter out those types.

Hmm I was worried about that. I have a bunch of different office file types, so it's much easier to just have individual rules for each type of archive. Thanks for the answer.
