Renaming Screenshots with "date created" Wed Nov 18, 2015 9:59 pm • by omorillon
Hi,

I will try to be as clear as possible but it is confusing.

I have set up rules to organize screenshot from all my devices including mac, iPad, iPhone and Apple watch. I am running a workflow to upload all screenshots to a folder called @Process Screenshots in Dropbox.

The hazel rule organized them based on pixel width and height then puts them into the proper folder. The last thing it does is to renames the files with this format - Screenshot date created extension.

That worked like a charm using the first computer. However, when I tried the same thing on a second computer all the screenshots I had were renamed Screenshot date created extension-1, Screenshot date created extension-2 so on and so forth. Hazel for some reason thinks that the date created is today for all screenshots and then it is adding a sequence to them because they can't all have the same name.

I checked the file info for some images and they said they were created today, it doesn't show the original create date. I imported them to Photos and they show the original date created in the metadata. H

How can I get Hazel to recognize the original date created instead of the date that it was modified?

When copying files out of Photos, it seems the date created is reset since it is creating new files. You should look at the other date attributes, possibly something like Content Date Created and see if that lines up with what you want.
