Hazel's Help file ("Running rules") states:
Normally, Hazel runs rules automatically as needed.

However, there appears to be a distinct lag between the time a file's conditions are set and Hazel executes the matching rule. In response, I open System Preferences > Hazel > Run Rules Now.

Questions
How often does Hazel actually run rules?
Can I adjust the frequency via defaults write com.noodlesoft.Hazel?

Thank you.

It's not on a schedule. As mentioned, it calculates when it needs to run. If there is a file event, it should do it within seconds. How much lag is there? What conditions are being set? And is this on a network file share?

Thank you for the response and sorry for the delayed reply.

I determined that the lag was caused by my archaic laptop and cluttered OS. My conditions are strictly tag-based and I'm running Hazel locally, not on a network share.

Since updating to Hazel 4.x every rule just stopped working and Hazel does a lousy job running as intended.

You say it should run if there's a file event, I've added several files during the recent hours but when looking in the Hazel log I see this as the latest log:

2016-05-11 23:17:11.798 hazelworker[2018] Processing folder Filmer
2016-05-11 23:17:13.851 hazelworker[2018] Done processing folder Filmer

That's 10 hours ago (!).

Are you also emailing support about this? If so, let's just continue there so we don't have to keep retyping things in both places.

I'm using the trial version and I have "(Throw away) Duplicate Files" for the Downloads folder checked and the app has been running for a week plus, but I still see dupes [files with (1) and (2)] in my Downloads folder (which have been in that folder for at least 2-3 days), so, I too am wondering if the Rules are running automatically? And when? Or is it because I'm using the trial version?

PS: It doesn't work even when I select "Hazel, Run Rules, Downloads"

PPS: Please advise.

Are the files identical? What app created them?
