OCR with Fujitsu's Searchable PDF Converter Wed Jun 17, 2015 7:37 pm • by MandoDan
Does anyone know of an easy way to make a PDF searchable using a Hazel rule that will work with this “Searchable PDF Converter”?

I am trying to use the OCR app that came with my Scansnap ix500 – “Searchable PDF Converter” – to OCR documents I download from the internet.

When I scan directly from the ix500, it is set to OCR everything and it works well. But when I download from an online source, some PDF are already ‘searchable’ other are not.

So, I download into a folder and would like Hazel run the OCR. I tried adapting the Applescript for PDFPen from Katie Floyd, substituting “Searchable PDF Converter” for PDFPen, but with no success. (http://katiefloyd.me/blog/automatically ... and-pdfpen)

I then tried using Hazel’s “Open With Application” with “Searchable PDF Converter” with OK results. There seems to be timing issues, so it OCRs in a loop. I have tried the “tag color” change and the “Date last modified is after “Date last matched” to OCR in one pass only, also with various results.

Anyone?

Thanks

I don't know "Searchable PDF Converter" but you should try using AppleScript with it. If it doesn't have AppleScript support, you should contact the author to add it.
