Sort into Subfolder (White space problem) Mon Feb 23, 2015 5:11 am • by janky99
Hello Guys,

Iḿ new to hazel, bought a license yesterday and everything was running smoothly up-to now.

Trying to sort all my photos into sub folder like this

2015/2 - February/

But it ends up creating /2015 / so i end up with 2 folders for the same year.

Using this Rule with a 10 min delay:
Image

Sort into subfolder rule:
date modified▸date modified - date modified

Everything works smoothly but this is what happens:

Code: Select all
2015-02-23 09:59:10.277 hazelworker[779] 2015-02-23 09.57.32.jpg: Rule Photos matched.
2015-02-23 09:59:10.280 hazelworker[779] [File Event] File renamed: /Volumes/My Passport/Dropbox/Camera Uploads/2015-02-23 09.57.32.jpg renamed to /Volumes/My Passport/Dropbox/Camera Uploads/SM-G900F-2015-02-23-8936.jpg.
2015-02-23 09:59:10.284 hazelworker[779] [File Event] File moved into subfolder: /Volumes/My Passport/Dropbox/Camera Uploads/2015 /2 - February/SM-G900F-2015-02-23-8936.jpg sorted from folder /Volumes/My Passport/Dropbox/Camera Uploads to subfolder /2015 /2 - February.

Not the file move into subfolder /2015 / < it has a white space there an this creates another folder in the same directory.

Any idea what might happen, (let me know if you need any other debug text copied over).

Regards

Can you show the full patterns involved in the Sort into subfolder action?

Thanks for you´re reply.

You mean this part
Code: Select all
date modified▸date modified - date modified

Translates to this:
2015/2 - February/

I can take a screenshot if neccessary.

Well, it will end up being two directories because of the > token. Do you have the first date modified formatted to only show the year? And the second to show the day the the third to show the month? If so, then it's working as expected. If not, then please show all the date patterns for each instance of date modified.

This is how it looks like, but after these few days and couple of reboots + I run disk tools to fix errors and permissions hazel seem to sort this out good now no more duplicate folders :)

Thanks guys for your help.

I'm talking about the actual date patterns when you click on each instance of "date modified" and do "Edit date format". Also, you are aware that the triangle creates an extra subfolder, right?

Thanks again man! ;-)

I forgot to check what you suggested for any white spaces, maybe i even fixed this while fooling around in the settings.

Yes Iḿ aware the triangle creates an extra folder, this is what i want as i´m categorizing the images like

2014 / 12 - December
2015 / 1 - January
2015 / 2 - February

Thanks for your help. :)
