'Year recorded' Token

Hi.

Im currently trying to setup a folder to rename and move any
album folders I put in there, I want to add 'year recorded' info to renaming a folder.
Im able to do this with author & album but not year recorded.
The reason I want to do rename & move a folder rather than
move music files into a new folder is I want to be able to move
any misc files with them. ie. album art etc...

Heres my current rule list

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Can you describe what isn't working?

Sure, I'm unable to get the 'year' tag from a music file and reference to
use in renaming of the folder.
Im trying to use 'matches' system, which works with author & album.
So if theres a way to also do this with 'year recorded' or another approach.

Thanks

Are you sure "year recorded" is actually filled out? In Hazel's preview, select one of the files and click on its "i" button. See if Year Recorded is shown there and if so, that it has the year you expect.

The info is there in file, it works when I use:
'perform rules on enclosing items'
But using rules on a folder Im unable to ref the
contained files 'year' info to use in renaming the folder.

Iv'e come up with a workaround but would much prefer to be able to have few rules to accomplish
the same.
To clear up what I'm trying to do:
place album folder in a watched folder
have the folder moved to the artist folder, done by referencing containing audio file.
rename folder once there into '(year) - (album) [Format]

with previous rule was able to achieve all except being able to rename the folder with year info from contained audio file.

The workaround is to only proceed if the containing audio file matches a predefined year, this way I need
to duplicate the rule for each year, i.e.. 2000 - 2015. This works but if theres a better way to do it would
be much appreciated, thanks.

Ah, I see. Yes, there's no way to "capture" that field in this case. But, instead, you might want to consider instead of processing the folders, process the files within individually. You can rename and sort into subfolders using the fields of the file itself. See the sticky article at the top of this forum on how to have Hazel go into subfolders. You would need another rule, though, to delete the original folders after you move the files out.

Ok, thank you.
I can't seem to figure out how to bring misc files with it.

Setup I'm thinking is along these lines:

* if folder contains music perform rules

* if file is music sort into subfolder based on tag info.

Not sure what step Im missing or would do next to import misc files.

So, can you not have a similar rule to match those?

Was there a resolution to this, I am trying to get Hazel to sort music files based on the Year but im getting a blank when using the Year Recorded tag but I know the information is there.

If its blank then there may be an issue with Spotlight not indexing it. If you do "Get Info" on the file in Finder, does it show up in the info there?

If I do get info then I can see the Album, Title, genre and author but not year. I have used a number of tag editors to make sure that the information is being saved so it could be spot light.

I have just followed Apple's instructions to make Spotlight reindex but that hasn't affected things. Not sure how long I need to wait for that to take effect.
