Since stopping Hazel I can't get it to start again (clicking on the 'Start' button in the Hazel Preferences Pane doesn't do anything). I'm using the latest version.

I had the same problem a while ago & ended up trashing Preferences, the folder in Application Support & then importing my rules again. But I'd like to avoid doing this again if possible.

If I click the Start button I notice HazelHelper is running in Activity Monitor. I've tried force quitting this & clicking on the Start button again but still no luck. Is there anything else I can try?

Can you check Hazel's logs (go to the "Info" tab and click "View Log") and post any errors you see there? Also, to restart the helper process, quit System Preferences, restart and load up Hazel.

In addition, if you are running on Tiger, re-download the latest version as an earlier build had a problem.

Nothing at all in the logs.

I tried restarting the helper process without any luck.

Sorry, I forgot to say I'm running the latest version of Leopard.

Could you check the regular console logs as well? Just launch the Console app (located in /Applications/Utilities). Look for errors from System Preferences.

Also, you can try installing Hazel again manually to see if that clears things up. Download the latest from the site and manually copy the preferences pane to your Library/PreferencePanes folder. Quit System Preferences and restart. Let me know if that clears it up.

I didn't see anything in Console about System Preferences.
After trying some different things I managed to get it working again by trashing the hazelhelper file :)

This has happened to me as well. I killed Finder, and hazel folder watch in the activity monitor. Worked after that.

Which hazelhelper file did you trash? I'm hoping you didn't throw away something that is needed for Hazel to work.

Also, if you find a Hazel process hanging/stuck, if you could do the following, it would be helpful to me:

- Launch Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities)
- Select the process in the list.
- Do "View->Sample Process" from the menu.
- Send me the output.

Thanks.

I meant to say the hazelhelper plist file (com.noodlesoft.HazelHelper.plist).
It was recreated once I started Hazel successfully.

If I have any more trouble I'll send the sampled process.
