Ok, the NAS is:

FreeNAS-11.3-U1
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1230 v5 @ 3.40GHz
16 GB Memory
Connected via Ethernet
Set up in RAIDZ1

I wonder if it has something to do with the permission settings on my NAS as I'm having some issues with read/write capabilities. I'm having trouble creating new folders within the NAS and the system keeps asking permission to create a new folder.

Any additional thoughts?

I appreciate your help!

I don't have any experience with FreeNAS. I'd look into whether they have forums of their own as they should be better equiped to help you.

I have the same problem here with a Synology NAS.

On the NAS I have a shared folder "music" on the top level of the volume. When I try to sync my music files to this folder Hazel cannot sync this because Hazel will try to created a folder named "(A Document Being Saved By hazelworker)" a level up before this folde - which is impossible.
When I try to sync my music to the shared folder "music/cds" the sync runs fine, but every folder will be created a temporary "(A Document Being Saved By hazelworker)" at "music" (on level up). After finish there is one temp folder "(A Document Being Saved By hazelworker)" left.

How can I solve this problem? If Hazel needed some temporary space why will this space is created on level before the target folder?

That usually indicates Hazel is being interrupted while doing something. I suggest checking the logs for any errors.

Interesting behavior...

i setup a Testfolder with an test rule for syncing only one file. I get an error, but the file will be copy to the new place. It seems a rsync bug/problem...

Code: Select all
2020-12-28 17:03:58.345 hazelworker[24941] DEBUG: == Sync output ==
>f++++++++++ test.mp3
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (24 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(226) [sender=3.1.2]

== End sync output ==
2020-12-28 17:03:58.346 hazelworker[24941] [Error] Could not sync file/folder: Could not sync file/folder at test.mp3 to /Volumes/music/test.mp3.

Are you out of disk space by chance?

Can you try, as a test, syncing to a local folder? Wondering if your NAS has some issue with rsync.

Interesting: If I use two USB-Drives all runs fine. Only if I use my network drive (SMB-Mount) it runs with problems. Perhaps insufficient access right?

Under which user context will Hazel/Rsync try to sync the files and folders?

Hazel uses rsync if you use the Sync action. You can try using the Copy action instead, though there will be subtle differences when copying folders as opposed to files.

Having this issue as well. Folders are being created on an NFS-mounted volume that I have Hazel assigned to act on. Any suggestions?

Just adding a "me too" to this issue. It doesn't happen with every file copy, but it does occur at times copying to my NAS from local drives. The files then seem to be locked so I can't delete via the Finder, even though the file transfer date can be the day before.

I will try and send some logs when I note the next issue. Need to read up on logging too.

Posting also to be notified when this post gets updated :)

I have just started consistently seeing this issue. I'm not seeing any errors being logged. Latest Hazel release on an Intel iMac running Ventura. The Hazel rules move the file to a mounted folder on a server computer, rename the file, and add a tag. All of this performs flawlessly but for leaving the empty folder with permissions such that I have to log into the server to delete it.

What has changed is I've got a new server. The old one ran macOS Sierra. The new one, set up as closely the same as possible, runs Ventura. It is a 2020 Mac mini (M1) while the older computer was a 2012 Mac mini (Intel).

Since it produces no errors, I don't know how to proceed.
