Subfolders Rules for TVShows and Music? Fri Jul 18, 2014 10:45 am • by ineoangelus
Hi there! Being using hazel for almost 1yr and a half now, so I figured it's time to start using it to automate even more things for me.

So, here's the problem, I'm using the rule for subfolders provided in this forum. However I have 2 rules that I can't seem to get working (or at least not seeing the logic to build them)

1st - I have a rule watching my downloads folder to change the name of downloaded TV Show episodes "TVShow name - [yy x yy] - episode name" (the rule is somewhere here in this forum as well), and after they're renamed, they are moved to [TVShow Name] > [Season #].

The problem is, some downloaded episodes come inside a folder along with a sample file, info file etc... and the rule to rename the episode and move it doesn't work if the movie file is inside that folder.

I would like hazel to seek inside this folders and move the episode to the correct folder and to ignore the other files (this part I already have working..)

The second part is that I would like that the original folder where the episode was moved from to be deleted.

Ideas please?

2nd - This one is basically to my downloaded albums. I would would like to have a rule in my downloads folder that would move the album folder to my music folder if, the folder content are music files.

For now I got the music files to move to the music folder, but I would like to move the album folder, not only the files inside it.

I would really appreciate any help regarding these two "issues".

Thanks! :D

To get Hazel to go into subfolders and process the files within, see the sticky article on subfolders at the top of the forum.

To get Hazel to process folders based on the files within, hold down option and click the + button to create a new condition. This will create a nested condition. There, you can set the target to "any/all of its sub-files" and then create conditions to match the sub-files.

Thanks for the help Mr_Noodle. (I already had read the post about subfolders before posting this one  )

With the nested condition I actually got the music folder issue working. No luck in deleting a folder after moving a TVShow from it though...

This is my flawed logic for it at the moment: http://postimg.org/image/vlqejqv0d/

I'm also using a rule I've picked up from this forum: http://postimg.org/image/bl23yw6vb/

Note that if you do "Run rules on folder contents", it won't actually go into the folder until after the other actions because of how it's implemented. You should probably move it to the trash in a separate step. For instance, have another rule which matches folders that don't have any of those files in it (indicating the file has been moved) and move those to the trash.
