"You cannot open Hazel preferences"

I've been using Hazel fine for months. Recently, it detected an automatic update was available, and asked if I'd like to install it. I said "yes" and thought no more about it.
Today I realised that Hazel isn't working for me any more. When tried to go into its System Preferences to find out what had happened, I was told "Preferences Error: You cannot open Hazel preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac."
Any ideas? Intel iMac, OS 10.5.3, Hazel... erm. Something. I can't tell, because I can't get to the preferences...
Ta,
Matt

I'm not sure if you were the one that emailed me about this but I suggest manually replacing the preference pane file.
- Quit System Preferences.
- Go to your Library/PreferencePanes folder and delete Hazel.prefPane. Better yet, zip it up and send it to me so I can see if it got corrupted.
- Download the latest version from the site.
- Manually copy the Hazel.prefPane file to your Library/PreferencePanes folder.
Hopefully that should fix things. Let me know if it works.

Thanks for the quick response. Nope, wasn't me that emailed -- however, I've since managed to fix the problem by downloading and installing 2.1.7. I did have to manually delete the existing prefPane first, though; a simple over-the-top install didn't do it.
I found the prefPane I'd deleted in my Trash, so I've zipped it up ready to send to you -- what address should I send it to?
Cheers,
Matt

In Hazel, go to the "Info" tab and click on the "Contact Support" link. That'll bring up a mail window.
Thanks.

D'oh. I looked all around the website before I asked, too

Mail sent.

This has happened to me with the last 2 releases. This time around, I deleted the pref pane and tried to manually install it, but it still wouldn't open. So I moved out my preference file and then it started working again. Then I deleted the new preference file and dropped my old one back in and that did the trick. Back up and running without having to totally reconfigure everything.

Hopefully it won't happen again when you upgrade to the next version. One of the more recent Apple updates did something odd with the permissions but hopefully the fix I put in in the last release will fix it. If it happens again (when upgrading to the next version, whenever that happens), then let me know.

Hi! I have got the same problem. First I got the error message "...cannot be run on intel macs". OK, i tried to reinstall it. I deleted the prefpanes in the Library. Then double clicked on the prefpane file in the dmg image. now i get the error message "...Hazel cannot be loaded." I also tried to remove the preference files and rules. But i still got the error. Can you please help me?

Do you see anything in the console? Also, can you check and see if you have Hazel.prefPane in both the top level /Library/PreferencePanes and your own Library/PreferencePanes ?
After you checked the above, try copying the file manually to your Library/PreferencePanes folder instead of double-clicking to install.

Glad you got it working. Did you get a chance to check the things I outlined? I ask because the cause of this is still unknown so any clues would be helpful. I'm especially curious about whether there are multiple copies installed.

Got the same problem. Here's what worked for me.
System Preferences Pane > Delete Hazel > Reinstall Hazel by dragging the icon into the Preferences Pane
Simple.

Aloha,
When I updated to version 3.1.1 I got the same error: "Preferences Error: You cannot open Hazel preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac."
However, none of the solutions offered in the forum worked.

I experienced the same problem after the upgrade. but actually this:
Mr_Noodle wrote:- Quit System Preferences.
- Go to your Library/PreferencePanes folder and delete Hazel.prefPane.
- Download the latest version from the site.
and re-installing the prefpane via the dmg package solved the problem

I started to have the same problem today when I upgraded. I tried everything mentioned year and none of them worked. What can I do to get Hazel back and running?
Thanks
