For those who had AppSweep pop-up during the last update

This should now be fixed in version 3.2.7. If you haven't updated to 3.2.6, then you can ignore this. If you did update and lost your settings, read below for recover options. If in doubt, email support.

Your support files are safe. Do not do anything drastic. Just try the following:

- Open your trash. Look for a Hazel.prefPane file there (there might be a number in parentheses in the name as well). Move that out of the trash to your Desktop.
- See if Hazel offers to reinstall the files.

If that doesn't work, then:

- Go into your trash again and look for a folder called "Hazel Support Files". That will contain all the support files that you need. If you look, it mimics the folder structure of your drive so you can just move those files back into the corresponding place.

If you emptied the trash and have backups, do the following:

- Quit System Preferences.
- Launch Activity Monitor and find HazelHelper. Quit the process.
- Find cfprefsd. Kill any that you can (some may be for other accounts and you can't kill them).
- Restore the following:
- In your Library/Application Support folder, the Hazel folder
- In your Library/Preferences folder, the files starting with com.noodlesoft.
- Reboot.

Also, I am still trying to diagnose what is going on here. If this happened to you can you email support (click "Contact Support" in Hazel's "Info" section) with the following:

- In your Library/Logs/Hazel folder, send the SparkleUpdateLog file.
- In your Trash, find the "Hazel Support Files" folder previously mentioned. Select it and do "Get Info" on it in Finder. Send me the created and modified times. Please also note what timezone you are in.

Thanks.

OK, the trash thing would be nice if I had known not to empty it.

What would be the correct way to get my files back from Time Machine ? I did spend hours on Hazel yesterday rewriting dozens of rules and this is nit funny at all. Bug happens but this is pretty bad.

Thanks anyway for your help solving this.

I've updated the post with info on what files to restore. Also, can you send in the info I asked for? I really can't fix it as I still don't know how often it's happening and what is causing it so any info you can send would help in that regard.

BTW, I just updated the post with a more rigorous approach to doing the restore.

I followed your instructions restoring the folder and file (only one in my backups) but app is still broken and rules are missing.

Any further help greatly appreciated

I can't do the get info dance on the folder in the trash (I hope I could...) but here is what SparkleUpdateLog.log contains in my case :

2014-04-08 18:44:25 +0000: ===== HazelHelper =====

Not much...

Look in the restored Application Support/Hazel folder. Are there .hazelrules files there? If not, then maybe you need to go further back in your Time Machine backups?

They are in the backup and I restored them.
I tried 3 times.

1/ it did not work as I did not kill the engine and rebooted.
2/ it brought the rules back but without the folders making them useless
3/ now I have no rules nor folders, back to the beginning

What I did is try to restore from 3 different Time Machine snapshots.

Are you able to re-create the folder list manually? If so, you can do that then import each of those .hazelrules files one-by-one. Note that you should move them out of the App Support folder first. Also, the files are not named in a way that you can figure out which folder they belong to. You'll have to import them, see which rules they are and then move them to the correct folder.

That said, I'd try doing the restore again, making sure to follow the procedure above carefully.

Having dozens of folders with tons of rules having sometimes the same name or very similar but in different folders I am having a real bad feeling here...

Is there really no other way than restoring the \Application Support\Hazel folder as a whole ?

In my backups in the Library/Preferences folder I only have com.noodlesoft.HazelHelper.plist whereas in my "working" folder I do also have a com.noodlesoft.Hazel.plist, is this normal ?

No. Both files should be there. Are you sure that file doesn't exist even in a much older snapshot?
