use a variable to rename files Tue Mar 11, 2014 6:54 am • by mrcmrc
Hi,
there is a way to make hazel ask me for a question and out the result into a variable and let me insert it into a file name?

My problem is this: I have a folder with pictures named "DSF8759.nef" and I with to append to each file name its creation date (YYYY_MM_DD) followed by a text (eg. "NewYork"). So the new name of the files will be "2014_12_24_NewYork_DSF8759.nef". But I wish that Hazel ask me for the place (NewYork) before renaming...

Thanks for the help!
- Marco.

You'll have to use an AppleScript to do that. Search the forums as I believe someone else has done something similar. Also, read the help on AppleScript as it also tells you how to send data back to Hazel.
