Hazel preventing time machine volume from ejecting

When I have hazel running, my time machine drive refuses to eject because hazel is scanning it in some fashion. There are no open files on the drive (when a backup is not running) and no hazel rules that involve the drive.

If I stop hazel, the drive can be ejected without a problem.

Is there a workaround for this behavior?

Do you know which specific process (HazelHelper, hazelworker) is involved?
