New user here, and I am trying to do something that should be not too complicated - I hope.

I have created a set of folders for my digital images since 2000. One for each year. I have painstakingly separated these by year and manually placed them in the corresponding folders. Now, I want to further file these by month, in each Year Folder. So 2002, for example, would have 12 folders created, with each month name, and the corresponding files placed in each one.

I guess I could simply create 12 folders by month and copy/paste them into each Year Folder, if that would be easier.

Since I am dealing with various cameras, EXIF data, and file types, I think I will have to use the Mac finder to classify things, by creation date. I was going to write some rules for this for one year, then copy the rule into the other year folders. Probably not the most efficient practice, I know.

What has held me up, other than not knowing what I am doing, is that I can't seem to set a date for a month, as in "September." My choice seems to be specific dates: xx/xx/xxxx, which is too finite.

Any ideas? Thanks!

When you drag a date attribute into a pattern, like for "Sort into subfolder", you can click on it to edit its format. There you can format it to only show the month, omitting the day and year, if you'd like.
