From dropbox or Box to dated folders Thu Jan 16, 2014 1:39 am • by Guy
I am new to Hazel and have been playing around it with but need some help for the following generic problem,

I have photos both on Box.com and dropbox in the Camera Upload folder online and mapped/synced to my Mac in the respective Box.com and dropbox folders.

I would like to:
- monitor these folders for new files/photos
- copy the new files to a dated folder structure in the Mac/Pictures folder using the the Date Created field and put them in a Year / Year-Month folder (e.g. 2004/2004-01)

In my trials (I used move to 2004) and sort in subfolders with the above folder syntax, but always end up creating duplicate folders i.e. 2004-01, then 2004-01-1, 2004-01-2 etc. Obviously somewhere the prior existence of the proper is not checked. There seems to be quite some options for the file existence but for the folder existence.

Would greatly appreciate any help.

Can you post the exact rule you are using?

Move to folder 2014 (Option if file exists, throw file away)
Sort into subfolders with pattern Content Created (in this case: 1999 - 12) (Option if file exists, throw file away)(Throw away if duplicate).

Thanks for your help.

That only looks like the action part of your rules. I'd like the conditions as well. I'm wondering if you are moving the folders containing the images and not the images themselves.

Thanks.

There was indeed a mistake in the conditions which I have now corrected.
It looks like it is working.

Thanks again for asking the right questions. :)
