Could not move. Source and destination are the same.

Hi there,

Hazel stopped working for me. The console logs always show "Could not move (this or that file). Source and destination are the same."

I made rules for the folder 'Dropbox > Camera uploads' (to move my photos to my Photos folder on Dropbox).

 Source folder rule:

 Destination folder rule:

 Hazel console error message:

What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Steven

Found the beginning of the solution. If I cancel the Hazel rule 'go into subfolders' I downloaded from Hazel, everything starts working fine. So the problem is this rule I guess? Any solution on this?

What I basically want to do is this: al my photos since 2008 are iPhone photos. So finder knows in which year they were taken. So I want to organise my photos and movies by 'year taken'. To do this, the photos should be moved from Dropbox > Camera Uploads to my Photos folder on Dropbox. I searched for hours for a Hazel rule, but it doesn't work out :|

Please do not keep bumping your thread. Keep in mind people aren't watching this forum constantly, especially during weekends.

I'm not sure what your problem is now if you say it's working when you removed that rule. That error you are seeing is just saying that you are moving a folder into itself. I'm guessing the rule is matching the destination folder; you should modify the rule to filter that out. But other than that, that error shouldn't be affecting anything.

Hi,

It's not working. It messed up my HD.

Can Hazel do this? If yes, which rules do I have to set?

- Scan a folder + all its subfolders (eg: Dropbox > Camera Uploads)
- Determine which (iPhone) photos were taken in a given year (eg: 2010)
- Move these photos to another folder (eg: 'Photos 2010')

I'm only asking help because I didn't find the right rules myself after 2 hours of trying and I don't to want to mess my photos up.

Thank you,

Steven

It can do it but I need more details from you. How did it mess up your HD? How exactly is it not working?

I don't know what happened, but a lot of folders got deleted. When I went to Dropbox online, I saw a lot of folders were indeed deleted. And then I could restore them. No clue how this happened really.

I suggest checking the logs then and seeing what rule they matched when that happened.

The logs are not so important for me. I deleted these rules in the meantime.

The only important for me is this question:

How to?

- Scan a folder + all its subfolders (eg: Dropbox > Camera Uploads)
- Determine which (iPhone) photos were taken in a given year (eg: 2010)
- Move these photos to another folder (eg: 'Photos 2010')

How do I set these rules?

Thanks in advance!

The rules you posted initially seemed pretty ok. Go through the troubleshooting guide at the top of this forum to help diagnose things
