Can't unistall Fri Nov 23, 2007 12:02 am • by spizz
I saw some weird messages from hazel in console and thought it was from old installation, so I installed new ver on 10.5 and uninstalled. It won't uninstall. I followed instructions here http://tinyurl.com/3eylxu to no avail. Now I am getting "please check the log files via console.app for more information:
11/22/07 7:54:57 PM System Preferences[3733] Undeploying.
11/22/07 7:54:57 PM System Preferences[3733] Removing /Users/xxxxxx/Library/Application Support/Hazel.
11/22/07 7:54:57 PM [0x0-0x193193].com.apple.systemevents[3744] com.apple.FolderActions.enabled: Already loaded
11/22/07 7:54:57 PM System Preferences[3733] Clearing preferences.
11/22/07 7:54:57 PM System Preferences[3733] Could not remove preference pane /Library/PreferencePanes/Hazel.prefPane.

How can I remove this program?

It looks like Hazel is installed machine-wide. You usually need to do that from an admin account. Likewise, to uninstall, you also need to do it from an admin account. If it isn't working running under an admin account, drop me an email and we can delve deeper into the issue.

Just an update.

The patch that should be coming out tomorrow should fix this (you will be prompted for your admin password on uninstall, if necessary). It appears Leopard has tightened permissions on the machine-wide preference pane install folder.

Note though, that there is a wider problem being reported where the Leopard upgrade has stripped the account of admin privileges. In such a case, you won't be able to uninstall Hazel (or do any other admin stuff) until you fix the bigger problem. Unfortunately, the article on http://www.macfixit.com requires a subscription to view the article but here's a thread on the same topic.

Please contact support if there's still a problem with this.
