I just started using Hazel to rename bills that I download. I have set up date matching, so the file is renamed with a date and a statement name.

Unfortunately, if I don't include 'extension' in the rename, the pdf appears as a file that can be opened only by TextEdit. If I do include 'extension' in the rename, I have the extension that I don't want at the end of the filename.

I have Finder preferences set to NOT show the extension.

I could go into info for each file, and then check 'hide extension,' but that kind of defeats the purpose of using Hazel.

What simple thing am I missing, please?

What I should have said and didn't, is that I started with a pdf with an extension, and would like to rename the file without adding an extension (but still have it recognized as a pdf).

Is this possible? Is there a way to have Hazel hide the extension?

You'll need to use Automator or AppleScript to hide the extension as there's no built-in action for that.
