Moving a video file is giving errors Wed Jun 05, 2013 2:01 pm • by adammharvey
Hello,

Some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have Hazel watching a folder on another computers folder via AFP, where Final Cut X will export .mov files. I have Hazel watch the folder for certain codecs to be exported then moved to another folder on another computer.

The problem comes in when it moves the finalized file it will try to bring it over but then stop and give an error that the file could not be moved. It then tries to grab another completed file and does the same. I have noticed that when all of the files have been completely exported I can start the process and it will bring them over but only once the last file has been completed by Final Cut X. I thought that I had fixed it by allowing Hazel to only grab files with certain codecs since that information was not on the file until it was completely exported. That does work and doesn't grab the file that is being made but the others just keep getting errors when being moved.

I am trying very hard to figure this problem out but I have not come up with a fix for this yet.

Update: it seems after I restart the computer Hazel is on the move process actually works now. But, when someone exports to that folder it begins again giving errors.

Update 2: Once all the video files have been exported from FCX hazel will copy the files to the other folder instead of moving them and gets stuck in a loop that keeps copying the files over and naming then in numerical order (ex. file.mov, file-1.mov, file-2.mov....). That is how I set it up as a rule but only for moving it over not copying.

Any idea why Hazel is freaking out when files are being built in that folder?

I noticed you also emailed support. Please only post/email to one place or the other. If you really want a prompt response, use email, not these forums.
