Workflow Suggestions Needed - Music Org Proj. Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:08 pm • by lgoler
I have an external hard drive which is my main music storage vehicle, organized into a directory as follows:

- Music
- Mp3
- Artist
- Album
- Files

I have another drive with files that somewhat duplicate what is on the master external. I'd like to find a suitable workflow to have Hazel copy whatever files from the secondary that aren't duplicative to the main. Is there any way to get Hazel to recognize which files are the same and only move what's new? On the main external, I've already had iTunes organize the sub-directory folders, but on the secondary drive I have not. Please let me know if I can further clarify what I'm trying to do.

It sounds like you're looking for a one-way sync from your iTunes directory to your external, is this correct?

Ultimately, yes. But first I need to find a way to copy the files from the first external to the second that aren't already there, keeping the album and artist folders in tact, and recognizing when it's a new file or a copy and deleting the copy. For example:

External A
Folder - Mp3
Subfolder - Bob Dylan
Album - Bringin' It All Back Home
Album - Highway 61

External B
Folder - Mp3
Subfolder - Bob Dylan
Album - Bringin' It All Back Home

I want Hazel to scan Folder Mp3 on External A and recogize that Highway 61 is not a match on External B and only copy the files in that folder into External B, hopefully with the album folder too.

That's what I'm looking to do. Any other questions?

As mentioned in your other thread (and via email - BTW, please ask in only one place), try using the sync action in this case. Search the forums for examples.
