Network sync worked once

I've setup nested folder sync using the instructions contained in forum post: How to get Hazel to go into subfolders. The initial sync to a folder on a networked Mac mini completed just fine. However, any files added to my source folder will not sync to the mini.

The hazel.log shows a number of errors, all similar to:

For all errors, the code (permissions, ACL?) displayed just before the file path includes the second letter-f. Additionally, all errors pertain to files already copied.

The newly added source files don't appear in the log.

I've used Finder > Get Info to ensure that permissions match (Apply to enclosed items...).

Any idea what the heck I'm doing wrong?

Is the destination formatted as HFS+ or using some other filesystem?

The destination folder is on the mini internal boot drive, formatted as HSF+ Journaled.

If you are ok with using the commandline, do:

That's a capital O, not the number zero. That should list the flags on the file. Another thing: create another file starting with a dash and see if it has a problem with that one as well.

I duplicated the file from my original post with a dash added to the beginning of the file name. The new "dashed" file doesn't appear in the log at all.

Should all the files inspected by Hazel appear in the log, regardless if they were newly added?

Which folder did you put the test file in? I would think it would show it unless rsync bombed before getting to it.

Another thing to try is copying that same file to another folder which don't start with dashes and seeing if that works, or renaming all the folders so that they don't start with a dash.

I moved the document that I duplicated (with a dash) into a different folder (no dash but still within the root sync folder). Didn't help.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Put it in a folder where it and none of its ancestors have a dash starting the name. Notice in the logs how the path still has parts which start with a dash.

Also, take one of the files that is failing, compress it with Finder and send it over so I can take a look here as maybe it has some flags set.

I've created a nested folder test that includes folders and files with names starting with a dash. It seems to sync properly, although I did get one Growl error - "Could not sync file/folder" - on the initial sync.

Finally, I redirected the original Hazel sync to a newly created destination folder. Same networked mini, same destination parent folder, same source folder, and same Hazel rule. It now works! Very strange, but I'll take it. No doubt the problem was not Hazel's, but instead, the initial destination folder on the mini.

Glad it's working now. I think there may be some error with rsync (the underlying program which does the syncing) where it is interpreting the file as an option to the program (which are designating using a dash). I'll have to look into it more closely.
