sync with external drive and cloud Sat Feb 02, 2013 3:57 pm • by hopenfaith
I've tried several recipes to make this work but either Hazel is finicky or I must be missing something.

I have a spreadsheet that I use throughout the day to track sales figures. As a sale comes in, I log it onto my spreadsheet. Since this info is not for everybody to see, I save and close the spreadsheet after every modification. Because the info is so vital to my business I also have the spreadsheet stored on an external drive and in the cloud.

What I'm trying to do is have the spreadsheet changes sync to my external drive and the cloud. As of now, I need to save the changes on my main file, and drag the updated file to the external drive and the cloud.

Here's my recipe so far:
If ALL of the following are met for THE FILE OR FOLDER BEING MATCHED
Name is XXXX
Comment contains XXXX
Date Last Modified is after 2-1-2013

Then
Copy to folder DESKTOP (I did this so I can see the updated file pop onto my desktop and know it updated)
Sync into folder EXTERNAL DRIVE
Sync into folder CLOUD

The problem is that the rule will run sometimes but other times it doesn't update the external drive and cloud locations.

What am I missing?

The way you have it set up, it will only sync once. There's nothing in the conditions to indicate otherwise. I assume you want it to sync every time the file is modified? If so, you need to add a condition like "date modified is after date last matched" which means "file was modified after the last time this rule matched". Alternatively, you can have it sync on a schedule using the current time attribute.

Thank you so much. The added condition completely solved my problem.
