Target New Files Only External HDD Tue Jan 15, 2013 5:20 pm • by JacobRyan
I have an external hard drive loaded with files. I want Hazel to only copy new files that are added from here on out to my network hard drive, it also needs to be able to see files that come in recursively within folders and grab them.

At the very top I have a rule titled "Subfolders" as such.

However using "Date Added is after Date Last Matched" does not return a favorable result even if I set Date Last Matched to Today. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a screenshot of the other rule? Also, did you check the preview?

This is the other rule...

I checked the preview and it doesn't target any of the files even if I introduce new files just to test. I had it at this level and I also added it to the sub folders rule too just to see if it needed to be combined in there with no luck.

Would it be possible to use Date Created vs. Date Added to select only new files and copy them? My Date Added column on the external hdd is blank.

You need to use the copy action in that second rule, not Run rules on folder contents. Also, I don't think you want "Date last matched is today". You probably want to use date added instead.

I guess I'll just do some more testing, I think using Date Created may be my way to go. I just have to be careful with it since I have to make sure the file is finished downloading before it tries to copy it.
