Auto Importing into Aperture whilst avoiding duplicates

Hi guys - I'm trying to automate the import of iphone photos from my DropBox camera uploads folder. & into Aperture
I can successfully rename the photos & move them to my local pictures folder.
From there what I'd prefer to be able to do is - import all files into a named Project in Aperture, without duplicating existing imports.
I'd also like to import red coloured images from that same local pictures folder (the same local pictures folder) into an Album that sits inside the Aperture project.
What am I trying to do?
Build a constantly updated album of photos I like that have been generated on my phone or Ipad. I'd like to either go through the Aperture project viewer to select which images end up in the album, or through Finder. Preferably I'd like to bounce between the two.
Problems
Auto importing the red coloured files into the album results in images being imported twice into the project. Aperture seems to not have a "do not import dupes" option.
Images tagged red in Finder are picked up by Hazel, not if the images are tagged red in Aperture. This seems annoying, but not Hazel's fault.
It seems I could leave the Album outside of the Project in Aperture and maybe skip the double imports, but that isn't how I currently have Aperture set up.
I'm flailing about a little, maybe you can see that!
My thanks for any help or advice you can give me
