Sync subfolders Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:22 pm • by Mondozer
Trying to sync files modified in the last 60 days from directories in my home folder to a Backup folder on my HD at the same time creating an identical subfolder structure. Then I burn the files to DVD and store them offsite.

I modified Mr. Noodle's rule from a previous discussion (see image).

Problem is that while I have go-into-sub-folders and Sync template, the rule syncs everything not just the last 60 days. I changed all the parameters I could think of but the logic is beyond me.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

TIA,
M.

The image isn't coming through. I suggest using a service like imgur and linking to it.

First off, are you sure you don't want to use "date modified is not in the last 60 days"? It seems like the way you have it, you'll have to keep updating the cut-off date manually every day.

So, the issue here is that the conditions are separate from the sync action. The rule only triggers if a file was modified in the last 60 days but the sync action itself syncs everything. I'm not sure why you only want to sync these particular files but for a more finegrained sync (but more complicated), you can do something like:

- Use the subfolder rule as noted in the sticky article at the top of the forum.
- Use the conditions you have in your backup rule, minus the "Kind is folder". This will match all the files you want.
- Instead of sync, do a copy operation to MWL_Backup.
- Then do a Sort into Subfolder, using the "Source Folder" attribute (look it up in the help). After dropping it in your pattern, click on it and select "Use path from monitored folder". What this does is sort the file using the folder structure at the source.

I think that should do it.
