Sorting Rules

Hi everyone,

Over time, as I've built up more and more rules in Hazel, things have started to get pretty messy. I have rules scattered across folders with no real order, and it's getting harder to find what I'm looking for.

I'm wondering if there's a way to sort rules, either alphabetically, by date created, or by date modified? I've been manually dragging them around but that doesn't scale well when you have a lot of them.

Is there a built-in option I'm missing, or is there a workaround others have found useful? Would love to hear how you all manage and organize your rules as your library grows.

Thanks in advance!

There is no sorting of rules as the order of the rules affects how they are evaluated and executed.

How many rules do you have? Do many of them follow a common pattern?

I have probably 20 to 30 rules, and that list keeps increasing. They do not follow a specific pattern. Why do you ask for the pattern, though?

The reason is that when I open Hazel, it becomes difficult to scan and find the exact rule that I want. So I have to manually keep dragging them and sort them alphabetically.

Because many times, there is a pattern and having that many rules is unnecessary. There are features, like pattern matching or using tables, which can greatly consolidate your ruleset.
