Hi there, new to Hazel so go gentle with me please.

I have a Music folder which contains over 1000's MP3 and WAV files, within this folder are also numerous subfolders.

What I would like is Hazel to search Music folder and subfolder, and identify the year the Music was released, create a year folder and place all relevant files into years they were released, I would also like to identify all files that don't contain a release year and put them into a separate folder so I can identify the year using other software.

Hope this makes sense, Look forward to hearing from you

Where are you getting the release year from? The name? The metadata?

You can use Sort into Subfolder with whatever date metadata you are using. You can format the date to only use the year. If the date is "blank" you can match that and move it into the separate folder.

This will cover handling files at the top level. If you want Hazel to dig into subfolders, search the manual as there is a chapter dedicated to the topic.

If the destination folders are all under the folder where all these files reside, you'll need a way to avoid having Hazel continually re-filing files that have already been sorted. It might be better to make the destination a separate folder.

I highly recommend doing this on a test folder and making sure everything works ok before unleashing it on your real one.
