"Last Opened" vs "Date Last Opened" Sun Apr 06, 2025 7:40 pm • by JCDC85
I see IF conditions for both "Date Last Opened" and "Last Opened". What are the differences between these and use-case for each?
I am trying to set up color labels for Apps in my Applications folder, but many of the apps are not populating the "Date Last Opened" field in the MacOS Finder.
Does "Last Opened" in Hazel work around this by calculating it on its own?

Did you select "Other" to find "Last Opened? If so, that is from Spotlight. In general, they should be the same but there may be cases where one is filled out but not the other, though in general, "Date Last Opened" is more reliable. If it's not in Finder, then it won't be anywhere else so you need to look into why that is.

EDIT: Oh, and to add, the date last opened usually only applies to documents opened by other apps, not the apps themselves.

Yes, Last Opened is under "Other".
Unfortunate about the "Date Last Opened" generally not working on apps since they are not opened by other apps. Thank you for filling me in on this though.
