Naming subfolders Sun May 27, 2012 4:57 pm • by Plarval
Here is my workflow.

(I'm a teacher)

I scan student work into an "action folder."

I use textexpander to rename the files with the date and subject and then the cursor is set at the end where I type in the student's name. So it might be named. 2012-25-05 reading Sam.

Hazel watches the action folder folder and then puts this into a folder by subject. So that last file would be put in a folder called "reading".

What I would like is for hazel to create a subfolder for "Sam" or any other student name I type in. Is there any way it can create a subfolder, but only name that subfolder using part of the filename, in this case, a student's name?

Having only been a hazel user for a few days,i'm no expert bit you
Can do what you want with the "matches pattern" workflow, where you van create variables from your filename and
later use those variables in renaming and moving statements. Burrow around in the help and read the section on matches parrern. Good luck
