Move files and folders Wed Oct 18, 2023 9:06 am • by sprint
Hi,
I have the problem, that I want to move files and folders from an extern drive to a local fileserver. That alone is not the problem, but it should only move items, that have a blue tag. (Folders can habe a gray tag, but that should not matter. Only blue is important)

This is i.e. the structure on the external drive:
Code: Select all
Photos --> cars (gray)
                       --> VW
                       --> Ford (blue)
                       --> Dodge
      --> Bikes (gray)
                       --> Honda
                       --> Harley Davidson
                             --> Sportster
                             --> Nightster.avi (blue)
                       --> Suzuki
     --> Trucks
                       --> Volvo
                       --> Scania

Now only the Ford folder and the Nightster movie should be moved. Not the Honda/Suzuki/VW/Dodge/Sportster folder. I managed to move the coloured folder on the first sub level, but then only with all content and not only the color tagged items. Also the path should be created when a sub item has to be moved. I.e. The Bikes folder already exists on the server, but not the Harley Folder. When the Nightster.avi file is tagged blue, the Harley folder should be created in the bikes folder.

At the end it should look like this:
Code: Select all
Photos --> cars (gray)
                       --> VW
                       --> Dodge
      --> Bikes (gray)
                       --> Honda
                       --> Harley Davidson
                             --> Sportster
                       --> Suzuki
     --> Trucks
                       --> Volvo
                       --> Scania

I hope I expressed my problem understandable. Is it possible to do that with Hazel?

Look up "subfolders" in the manual. There's a chapter there dedicated to having Hazel go into subfolders.

As for matching the tagged folder itself, the rule should be straightforward. When copying/moving to the new location, you can set the option to copy over the folder structure as well.
