Inconsistent results on PDF contents

I use several rules to name and tag invoices received as PDFs. A rule which used to work but no longer does so I am looking for help on how to fix it.

Click on the red x. It will show you the text as Hazel sees it. My guess is that it's not specified as it might look visually.

It seems that the contents are now encoded in some way. Is there any way to make sense of it?

Not within Hazel. PDF is a pretty open ended format and allows for all sorts of crazy things. You can try opening it in Preview, printing then doing "Save as PDF" to see if it re-encodes in a more usable form.
